"Our ability to collaborate and promote the right services is sure to benefit and improve credit union members' lives."

Craig Beach, CCUL EVP/COO

Raleigh, NC and Columbia, SC—The Carolinas Credit Union League welcomed new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Craig Beach to the Columbia office on Monday, April 23, bringing the association not only his experience and background in innovation, but also his commitment to credit union values and success.

Hired in early March, Beach has assumed leadership of Professional League Resources, Inc. (PLR), the for-profit League subsidiary that offers back-office, consultative, and partner resources to support efficient operations and effective service to credit union members. In his more than twenty years of credit union system experience—most recently as COO of CO-OP Shared Branching, Inc.—Beach has identified and hit credit unions’ unique target: competitive need against relatively limited capital, delivered through cooperation.

At CUSC, he built the brand, marketing, and sales team for shared branching and the credit union-owned Next Generation Network (NGN). That technology helped shared branching grow from 500 to 1,850 credit unions serving 50 million members nationwide. Then as COO over branching, mobile, remote deposit capture, and P2P for CO-OP, Beach was instrumental in combining all three national shared branching networks into one organization. CO-OP Shared Branching is second only to Wells Fargo in national reach.

Beach expects to bring the same excitement to credit unions in the Carolinas, joining their great potential in cooperation with innovative collaboration and value propositions. He has begun by learning the organization and meeting with credit unions, including participants in the May 2 Senior Executive Forum in Greenville, and he sees big things ahead.

“On my second day I was watching the advocacy team successfully move a much-needed state credit union law through the SC House. Carolina credit unions are fortunate to have such a talented team representing them at the local and national levels,” Beach recalled. “From my perspective, including experience with twenty-four league, service corporation, and CUSO distribution networks that represent CO-OP Shared Branching, there is no better combination of league and service corporation than here in the Carolinas.”

Beach is energized in moving closer to the “front lines” in the movement with a passionate organization focused on credit unions’ remarkable story of unity, creative collaboration, and mutual success.

“It was no surprise to see a central, prominent reminder in each League office of our core values including ‘Stronger Together.’ That focus on working together to promote and advocate for credit unions drew me here,” Beach continued, “and I look forward to discovering new ways we can help credit unions compete in an ever-changing financial and payments landscape.”
