The Carolinas Credit Union League is proud to share that Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) has been scheduled to speak at CUNA’s upcoming Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) February 25 – March 1. Scott will address credit union representatives from across the country during the morning general session on Wednesday, February 28.
Prior to his political career, Senator Scott served as a board member for Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union in Summerville, SC. As a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Senator Scott has demonstrated his credit union background and knowledge through his support for the credit union tax status, regulatory relief, and several other important credit union issues. Scott is a co-sponsor of SB 2155 – Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act, a bill that was introduced last November and favors credit unions across the country.
League VP of Governmental Affairs Billy Boylston is excited for Scott to share his credit union knowledge and passion with South Carolina’s participants and the thousands of other advocates from across the country.
“As a former credit union volunteer and member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, we appreciate Senator Scott’s long understanding of credit unions and his support,” said Boylston. “We are grateful for him and his staff for always being so accessible, and are excited to hear him address representatives from credit unions across the country.”
Held annually in Washington, D.C., the CUNA GAC is the largest advocacy event for credit unions and their most visible opportunity to petition lawmakers for their support of the credit union difference. Participants gain greater knowledge of the political environment, legislation, regulations, consumer issues, advocacy strategy, and more.
The League is proud to have over 150 credit union representatives attending GAC this year. League Advocacy will host a conference call for all participants on February 13, 2018 at 3 p.m. EST. to share an overview of League-sponsored activities.
