State officials join Pee Dee Chapter for Legislative Night
Thursday, November 9, 2017
South Carolina's Pee Dee Chapter of Credit Unions held its annual Legislative Night Monday, November 6 at SPC Credit Union in Hartsville, SC. Over 50 credit union representatives from throughout the region attended the event highlighting two elected officials from the state legislature—Representative Pat Henegan (D-Bennettsville) and Senator Gerald Malloy (D-Darlington).
Attendees mingled with the elected officials during a social period before hearing from Henegan and Malloy on issues impacting their districts, including passing a roads bill and continuing to look into the failed SCE&G VC Summer Nuclear Project.
In addition to State House hot topics, Senator Malloy addressed the League-supported bill, S. 337, to update the SC state charter. While he does not sit on the subcommittee where the bill currently awaits a vote, he continues to study the issue as it is directly impacts the state-chartered credit unions in his district.
“It is always beneficial to invite lawmakers to credit unions," said CCUL VP of SC Governmental Affairs Billy Boylston. "While I can speak to elected officials on issues important to credit unions, at the end of the day, having lawmakers hear directly from their constituents is even more meaningful.”
