Elizabeth "Sis" Hamilton, whose career spanned 70 years and whose mentoring qualities shaped the careers of many credit union employees in North Carolina, passed away May 30 in Greensboro. She was 92.

Hamilton's career in credit unions began in 1943 at the age of 17 when she became secretary of the board of Tri-City (now Summit) Credit Union. She retired in 2013 from the Summit board. Along the way, she served in various roles on the board and for many years as the CEO of the credit union.

Hamilton's impact extended well beyond Summit. She was elected to the North Carolina Credit Union League board of directors and holds the distinction as being the first female elected to the board. Hamilton also served on the CUNA board for 25 years, as well as many other leadership roles in the state and national credit union system.

Perhaps more importantly, Hamilton inspired and shaped the careers of many credit union leaders in the state, and left a lasting impact on many lives. A retrospective on Hamilton's career, published on CUInsight, is available here. To read Hamilton's obituary, please click here.
