Columbia, SC (10/18/13)—South Carolina credit unions celebrated International Credit Union (ICU) Day on Thursday, October 17 with giveaways, community events, member appreciation specials, and an overall celebration of the credit union difference. This year's theme, "Credit Unions Unite for Good,” was inspired by the Credit Union National Association’s strategic vision, "Unite for Good."
Here are some ways credit unions in South Carolina celebrated 2013 ICU Day:
Mid Carolina Credit Union (Lugoff) celebrated all week with the theme, "Financially Fit.” Each day, the credit union distributed "Financially Fit” pamphlets covering topics such as: Get a new car at your price; Protect your cards against fraud; Are your savings ready for anything; and What to throw away, and what to keep. The pamphlets, designed by CUNA, were customized for MCCU.

"On Thursday, Mid Carolina also gave out debit/credit card security sleeves to help keep our members accounts fit and secure,” MCCU’s Tina Smith commented. "We’ll end the week with a free shred event at two of our branch locations.”
Meanwhile in Columbia, Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union continues to host a giveaway contest in celebration of International Credit Union Day. Members who enter by Sunday, October 20 are eligible to win $50 cash. The credit union will email the ten lucky winners on Thursday, October 31.
Both Georgetown Kraft Credit Union (Georgetown) and SPC Credit Union (Hartsville) made refreshments available in their lobbies for members on Thursday, with GKCU serving cookies, drinks, and giveaways all week (one branch per day).

SPC CU also invited business professionals from the Hartsville area to its main office for the Thursday night Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event. "The occasion was an opportunity to shine a light on our service efforts as we ‘Unite for Good’ in our local community,” said SPC CU Vice President Linda Weatherford.
In the Upstate, Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union (Spartanburg) also turned ICU Day into a week-long celebration, hosting "Member Appreciation Days” at a number of its branches. Each location had refreshments, gifts, and a balloon artist on site. The credit union promoted the celebration through social media and a custom landing page on its website.
