GAC Fall Prep: 'Tis the season for Project Zip Code updates, booking rooms and more
Thursday, November 14, 2019
Before you know it, the largest advocacy event for credit unions — the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) — will be upon us! With that in mind, here are some important deadlines and reminders for credit union advocates joining us February 23-27 in Washington, DC.
Crashing the GAC? Apply by Nov. 30, 2019!
Credit union young professionals (35 & under, or "35 at heart") have an opportunity to attend the GAC as part of The Cooperative Trust’s Crash the GAC program. This is a lower cost opportunity to take a deep dive into the world of credit union advocacy. Interested applicants must submit their entries by 11:59pm CST on Saturday, November 30. There will be NO extensions on the deadline this year! At least one (1) representative from each state will be selected to attend. Learn more about how to apply here.
League Housing Reservations, Cancellations and Changes—Key Dates
The League does have a designated room block at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington DC Convention Center. To book a room through our secure portal, visit our GAC event page (login required).
If making a room cancellation, please be mindful of these upcoming key dates:
- Friday, December 13, 2019: Reservations cancelled on or before this date will not be charged a cancellation fee of one night’s room and tax.
- Saturday, December 14, 2019: Reservations cancelled on or after this date will be subject to one night’s room and tax cancellation fee per room.
Project Zip Code Updates Needed by December 31!
An important component of credit union advocacy is showing strength in numbers. One way that's possible is through Project Zip Code – a secure program that matches credit union members by legislative district and county, but does not include personal information.
PZC information is used during office visits with legislators during the CUNA GAC and other League-hosted legislative events, and leaves a great impression on legislators. With the GAC approaching, now is a great time for credit unions to start updating their numbers to accurately relay them to members of Congress and use them in grassroots efforts throughout the year.
The latest version of PZC is available for download here (login required) and includes a user manual and FAQs guidance. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for technical support. Please direct any other questions to any member of the CCUL Advocacy team.
North Carolina’s own Maurice Smith among 2020 Herb Wegner Award recipients!
In September, the National Credit Union Foundation announced the three recipients for the 2020 Herb Wegner Memorial Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement. Among this year’s honorees is LGFCU CEO Maurice Smith. Honorees will be celebrated at the annual Foundation Dinner on February 24 during the GAC.
Learn more about the program, honorees, and how to purchase tickets here. Tickets are available now through February 10.
