COLUMBIA, SC and RALEIGH, NC—To support credit unions impacted by Hurricane Dorian, the Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL) is contributing $5,000 to the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Through the Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, employees and volunteers who sustained damage or faced significant evacuation expenses are able to apply for disaster relief aid. To date, the fund has provided more than $2 million in aid to the local, national, and international credit union communities.
“Supporting the Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund is one integral way of living out the credit union philosophy of ‘People Helping People,’” said League President and CEO Dan Schline. “Hurricane season is still underway, and it’s important we – as a cooperative movement – make sure these funds are always available to help credit union employees and volunteers in affected areas get back on their feet.”
The hurricane, which stands at a Category 1, caused massive flooding across the Bahamas, and continues to impact the Carolinas.
Others that wish to donate, may contribute online via the Carolinas Foundation Disaster Relief Fund webpage. Any donation collected is disbursed dollar-for-dollar to aid in disaster recovery.
