In partnership with the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, credit unions disbursed more than $300,000 in academic and needs-based scholarships for 290 members in the Carolinas.

The Foundation’s Scholarship Fund Management Program, which is comprised of a collection of funds from individual credit unions, was established to help credit union members in North and South Carolina with higher education expenses. Credit union members are awarded scholarships based on academic performance (a GPA of 3.0 is required for consideration), community activities, leadership, and an essay. Furthermore, any applicant who applies for a scholarship from their credit union is automatically entered into the pool for consideration of a Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Scholarship.

Credit unions may also elect to use its own application. Scholarship fund management will consist of an affordable, turn-key approach from the Foundation including optional winner selection, notification to all student applicants and fund distribution to the student’s attending school. The 2020-2021 application will launch electronically in October of this year with a due date of early February 2020. If your credit union is interested in establishing a scholarship fund with the Foundation, please contact Lauren Whaley at lwhaley@carolinasfoundation.org.
