RALEIGH, NC AND COLUMBIA, SC — The Carolinas Credit Union League’s headquarters in North Carolina and South Carolina are settling in to exciting changes that at unlikely odds have come nearly simultaneously. On June 14, League staff in North Carolina returned to their office space in the Downtown Raleigh Quorum Center. Meanwhile, SC staff are preparing to move out of their Columbia/Irmo location by early July as the building goes through the final stages of sale.
The Return to West Jones Street
|Before and After: CCUL's NC office suite at the Quorum Center was cleared for occupancy on June 14, 2019. While decorating and minor finishes are still underway, the space is now functional for League staff.
Two years since the nearby fire on W. Jones Street caused fire and water damage to the building, the Quorum Center is finally restored. During the restoration period, League staff worked out of Coastal Credit Union’s headquarters. The renovated suite features office space for the seven Raleigh-based staff, plus extra offices for remote staff, a new breakroom, and collaborative meeting spaces. Other additions include adjustable standing desks in each office and better integrated technology for video and telecommunications.
“The silver lining of this displacement period was a chance to rethink our office space,” said Dan Schline, League president and CEO. “Not only did we make each office more health-conscious and efficient for staff but we thought more broadly on the experience our members and other visitors may have interacting in the space. I want to thank Coastal for being so accommodating during this time and especially League staff for being patient and flexible in the process.”
Departing Broad River
|A Piece of History: The League in 1975 purchased the land on which its Columbia complex sits. Over the years, it has housed share-draft processing, a credit union branch, and countless advocacy, networking, and development events including the Teller Training School that continues to this day.
Columbia-based staff are in the process of “purging and packing” as the building nears new ownership in early July. The League is reviewing prospects for the new office location with the goal to position the SC headquarters closer to the State House downtown while matching the functionality of its counterpart in NC.
“The League has owned this building since 1977 and had it on the market for twelve years,” said Schline. “It’s certainly been a large part of our association’s history and provided a great space for advocacy and professional development events over the years. We look forward to finding a location that will continue to meet our needs moving forward.”
Until a new South Carolina location is found, Columbia-based staff will be working from a temporary office location.
Changes to Office and Mailing Addresses
The new physical and mailing address for NC headquarters is 323 W. Jones Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27603. Starting July 1, all mail to SC headquarters should go exclusively to its long-held mailing address: P.O. Box 1787, Columbia, SC 29202.
Further developments on these office transitions will be shared in the coming months.
