Carolinas Credit Union League Senior Auditors Matthew Cotton and Rico Palmer earned their designation as Certified Credit Union Internal Auditor (CCUIA). The CCUIA designation is earned by completing CUNA & Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors (ACUIA) Internal Audit Certification School.

Cotton and Palmer attended the school March 25-28, 2019 in Atlanta, GA, and successfully demonstrated their mastery of core auditing competencies through an onsite exam. This year's program resulted in 107 new CCUIA designees, bringing the school's total to nearly 500 certified auditors since its start in 2016.

The CCUIA program is designed to help participants learn how to:

  • Create a custom audit plan for your credit union
  • Evaluate internal controls and risks
  • Conduct fraud/employee investigations
  • Audit financial management
  • Manage internal audit communications

“Internal audits are one of many services the League offers to our credit unions,” shares LaTasha Cooper, senior vice president of credit union resources for the League. “It’s not only an impressive accomplishment that Rico and Matthew have earned this designation but it further ensures that we [the League] continue to deliver effective and efficient audit services to our clients.”
