Harvey, Poole receive CUDE scholarships through Carolinas Foundation partnership
Wednesday, February 20, 2019
The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation recently awarded scholarships to attend Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) training to Chiannon Harvey (Carolina Foothills FCU) and Christopher Poole (Vision Financial FCU). The scholarship, which covers all on-site costs at the week-long training event, enables Harvey and Poole to attend one of the four CUDE training events in Madison, Wisconsin in 2019.
The signature program of the National Credit Union Foundation, CUDE is designed to explore and create opportunities for credit unions to leverage their cooperative business structure. Since 1982, more than 1,900 credit union advocates from over 35 countries have earned their CUDE Certification.
The scholarships awarded to Harvey and Poole came from the CUDE Scholarship Fund, which is managed through a partnership with the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. The CUDE Scholarship Fund is capitalized through earnings from the Principles & Philosophy Conference. Each year, CUDE volunteers in the Carolinas review applications and choose scholarship recipients. Past attendees from the Principles & Philosophy Conference are eligible to apply for CUDE scholarships.
Harvey, who joined Carolina Foothills in 2018, serves as the marketing strategist for the credit union. An early career goal for Harvey is to "cut through the noise" in order to educate the public about the benefits of credit unions. She says CUDE training "would help me better understand the history of the credit union movement and aid me in developing a clear message."
Poole, an employee at Vision Financial for nearly five years, currently serves as an MSR. His goal in attending CUDE is "to have the best understanding of the movement and why my role within my credit union is so important." In addition to his role at the credit union, Poole provides financial education to students at Voyager Academy in Durham, NC.
The CUDE Scholarship Fund is one of many professional development opportunities for credit union staff.
