Greenville FCU’s Paul Hughes in the running for District 3 CUNA Board seat
Thursday, July 19, 2018
Greenville Federal Credit Union CEO Paul Hughes is running for the CUNA Board of Directors in the District 3 special election, with voting open through August 23 via ballots sent yesterday to eligible members. Hughes was the first nomination received among nine for the position, which became vacant in early June and expires in 2021. Results will be announced Aug. 24.
Hughes has more than 30 years of experience working in the credit union industry, 27 of those years serving as CEO for Greenville FCU. On why he decided to run, Hughes explains, “My passion and dedication to credit unions runs very deep as the credit union movement has been my only calling.”
If elected, his priorities include fighting to preserve small credit unions in a challenging regulatory landscape; continuing to rollback unnecessary regulations that impede small- to mid-size credit unions from serving their members effectively; and keeping District 3 credit unions informed while listening to their concerns and challenges.
While fortunate to have two strong credit union CEOs from the Carolinas already serving on the CUNA Board of Directors, the addition of Hughes’ expertise and passion for small and midsize credit unions is something Carolinas Credit Union League President and CEO Dan Schline views as a great asset to the CUNA Board.
“Paul is a strong supporter of small credit unions and, as I can directly attest, a vocal advocate with lawmakers for regulatory relief,” said Schline. “Credit unions in the Carolinas would be well served with Paul on the CUNA Board of Directors, so I hope you will join me in supporting his election. With nine candidates for this seat every vote will count!”
