The Carolinas Credit Union League, CUaware, and participating credit union chapters are excited to kick off the 2019 CUaware Protégé Competition for rising professionals age 35 and under. Led by CUaware, the competition spans across North Carolina and South Carolina.

The program is an opportunity for credit unions and chapters to both recognize the value and potential in rising professionals and reinforce cooperative principles and credit union philosophy.

The competition is based on a three-tiered structure. Each participating credit union identifies one (1) candidate to send to the chapter-level competition, where he or she must complete a one-page application essay and give a five-minute presentation on a category from a provided list. Credit union chapters will have until January 4, 2019 to host their competition and determine a winner to send to the finals at the Carolinas Credit Union League’s conference January 31 – February 1 in Charlotte, NC.

The final winner of the CUaware Protégé Competition will earn a position on the CUaware Leadership Council and his or her choice of the following developmental scholarships funded by the league:

  • Southeast CUNA Management School – One – year registration, valued at more than $1,600 (requires commitment to three-year program)
  • CCUL Hike the Hill (Washington, DC) – Full participation including airfare and lodging, valued at $1,100
  • Principles & Philosophy Conference + Webinar Voucher – Includes conference tuition, two nights lodging, meals, and a $600 CU webinar training voucher (total value around $1,300).

Two runners-up also will have their choice from these developmental scholarships. And a plus for all competition participants is the opportunity to participate in CUaware's Protege Mentor Program, which pairs each rising professional with an established credit union leader for valuable peer exchange and career development.
