Employees from Premier FCU and Truliant FCU respectively donated supplies to support neighborhood relief following the tornado. Additionally, Truliant donated funds to the Guilford County Schools Classroom Tornado Relief Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.

When a category F2 tornado touched down on April 15 in east Greensboro, NC — toppling trees and ripping apart homes and businesses, leaving a path of destruction more than 30 miles long — Premier Federal Credit Union, Truliant Federal Credit Union and others were quick to offer support to those affected in the Guilford County community.

Most notably, the tornado displaced more than 800 students from three damaged elementary schools which will remain closed for the remainder of the school year.

Truliant, which has three branch locations in the county, donated $10,000 to the Guilford County Schools Classroom Tornado Relief Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. Additionally, both Truliant and Premier purchased supplies to support neighborhood relief in the hardest hit parts of Greensboro. Premier also collected supplies at one of its branches for distribution back into the community.

In a news release on the donation, Truliant President Todd Hall comments, “This tornado hits especially close to home for us and our hearts go out to all those who’ve been impacted physically and emotionally by its damage. We’re here to improve the lives of our members and their communities and we hope this donation provides some relief to those affected.”

Carolinas Credit Union Foundation President Lauren Whaley was quick to email credit union CEOs in the Triad after learning of the tornado’s destruction, noting that the Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund is available to support community grants as well as grants to credit union employees and volunteers. To date, only one application is pending from a credit union employee whose home was damaged in the storm.
