Wednesday, March 28, 2018
Subscribers to the Carolinas Foundation quarterly newsletter recently received the Spring edition, featuring highlights of recent events and details on what’s on the horizon. The opening President’s Message touted the Foundation’s recent donations via the League dues process and thanked credit unions in the Carolinas for their generosity.
“The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation was one of the first foundations in the country to encourage credit unions to support its state foundation via the League dues process,” noted Lauren Whaley, president of the Foundation. “The support in the Carolinas has grown each year and this year, more than $117,000 was raised! Thank you!”
While noting the success of the 2017 Awards Gala, the newsletter also reminded credit unions to apply for this year’s awards competition as submissions are due June 30, 2018. The winners of the state-level CUNA awards competition for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award, the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award, and the Desjardins Youth and Adult Financial Education Awards and winners for this year will be recognized at the next gala held in 2019.
The upcoming events section highlighted three engagement opportunities for credit unions:
Lastly, the newsletter highlighted how credit unions can support the mission and programs of the Foundation by sharing a portion of interest earned on investments with Vizo Financial Corporate Credit Union. Whaley shares that many years ago this was referred to as the Community Investment Fund and with $150 million in investments, this allowed the Foundation to fuel its community grants program and other initiatives. The Community Investment Fund has an investment balance of $4 million. Whaley reminds credit unions that any investment at Vizo can be part of the Community Investment Fund and any portion of the interest revenue can be directed to the Foundation.
