League amps up SB 337 advocacy as
SC General Assembly reconvenes

The 2nd regular session of the 122nd South Carolina General Assembly will convene Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Any bills that do not pass this year will have be reintroduced as new legislation in the next session.

While the League monitors all legislation impacting financial services, we are continuing to focus our efforts on passing Senate Bill 337, which updates and modernizes our state credit union charter. Read last year's session recap for a reminder on previous efforts.

Since the SC General Assembly adjourned last May, the League has strategically spearheaded many in-district events and meetings with senators. These events were used to educate our lawmakers on what makes credit unions unique and different than banks. Based on these meetings and results from our statewide poll, we have partnered with a SC-based digital advertising firm to create a credit union awareness campaign.

If you aren't already part of our digital campaign, we encourage you and your credit union to get involved today! Taking action is easy—visit MySCCreditUnion.com and use the pre-populated email template to request your senator’s support. You can also keep up to date with bill progress by “liking” My SC Credit Union on Facebook and following on Twitter.

The next subcommittee meeting is scheduled for January 31 and action is needed now. In addition to the digital campaign, we ask any available credit union representatives to come to Columbia for the hearing – your presence sends a strong message!  I will be in touch in the coming week with specifics on the hearing.
