In recognition of April’s designation as Financial Literacy Month, CCUL celebrates Financial Literacy Day in Columbia on Tuesday, April 9.
The annual event brings volunteers from South Carolina credit unions together for a Reality of Money event with area high school students. This event is a simulation of real-life decision-making for young people getting their first job, house, car, and possibly integrating these activities with starting a family. Students are assigned specific roles and respond to life situations over a 1- to 2-hour simulation.
This year the event takes place from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. inside the S.C. State House, which will give lawmakers an opportunity to observe the event from start to finish. Volunteers are needed to work the “Life Stations” that simulate work, shopping, medical, etc. A press conference (tentatively scheduled for 11:45 a.m.) will be held at the conclusion of the event.
