LGFCU's Sandy Green delivers food donations from LGFCU staff to Mix 101.5's Jamie Caskey and Vanna Fox.

Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) staff participated in Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS) and Mix 101.5′s BackPack Buddies Drive on Wednesday, August 20 in Raleigh, NC. IFFS is an innovative hunger-relief organization serving seven counties in and around the Triangle, according to the company’s website.

At the end of every week, the BackPack Buddies program provides children from food-insecure homes with a backpack containing six balanced meals and two healthy snacks.

Statistics shared on the IFFS website state that 1-in-4 children in North Carolina are at risk for hunger. And in the Triangle nearly 116,000 low-income children (43%) receive free and reduced-price lunch at school. But on weekends, bare cupboards and hunger are a harsh reality for many of the youth in the region.

Donations from LGFCU staff included 30 backpacks, more than 500 pounds of food, and enough money to sponsor three children for one year. Jamie Caskey and Vanna Fox, on-air talent for Mix 101.5, were also at the Crossroads Plaza donation site. Donations were collected from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
