FORT BRAGG, NC – Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union partnered with the USO of North Carolina at Fort Bragg to help provide and deliver cupcakes to junior enlisted Fort Bragg soldiers for their birthdays.

Code named “OPERATION CUPCAKE,” the USO of NC provides birthday cupcakes each month for the Fort Bragg Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers Program (BOSS). At the end of each month, SPC Sharrell Bellous, BOSS vice president drives around post with a USO of NC volunteer to deliver the cupcakes to soldiers, sing “Happy Birthday” and take pictures. July’s volunteer was Vanessa Pillmore, marketing assistant at Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union.

“I truly enjoy delivering cupcakes to all the single soldiers at Fort Bragg,” said SPC Bellous. I believe that going around singing and presenting cupcakes to the soldiers helps boost their morale and makes their day special.”

OPERATION CUPCAKE is an important project that makes young, single soldiers feel special. Most of them are away from their hometown and families for the first time, which can be a rough and lonely transition. OPERATION CUPCAKE helps the soldiers feel connected with others and appreciated in knowing that someone is thinking of them on their special day.
