Former Piedmont (SC) Chapter renames itself Upstate Chapter of Credit Unions
Wednesday, April 9, 2014
Greenville, SC (4/8/2014)--The board of the former Piedmont Chapter of Credit Unions in South Carolina approved on Tuesday, March 25 its new name as Upstate Chapter of Credit Unions. The move provides greater clarity among chapters in the Carolinas, which include the Piedmont Chapter of Credit Unions serving metro Charlotte and surrounding counties--including the former Catawba Chapter in South Carolina--and the North Piedmont Chapter serving greater Greensboro, NC.
The opportunity for renaming came about as the former state leagues considered consolidation in 2013. Officials noted the similar chapter titles, especially as North Carolina's Piedmont Chapter worked toward including South Carolina's former Catawba Chapter of Credit Unions. Both Piedmont chapters were informed of the issue, and South Carolina's took the initiative.
"Upstate is the most common name of our multi-county area and there is not a region known as the Upstate in North Carolina, so it made the most logical sense,” said Upstate Chapter President Alan Berry. When he and the chapter board met officially last month, they quickly decided on Upstate Chapter as the new name.
