SC's "Protege" competition to transform, encompass both Carolinas

Columbia, SC and Raleigh, NC (1/23/2014)--The Carolinas Credit Union League will extend a two-year-old leadership competition originated in South Carolina, working among each state's chapters and related groups to present a two-state program beginning in Spring 2014. The program will begin with official announcement at the league's 2014 Annual Meeting in Myrtle Beach and will culminate in the 2014 Leadership Conference in Pinehurst.

The collaborative program, previously known as "Palmetto Protege" in South Carolina, fosters leadership among early-career professionals by engaging them in exploration of credit union principles and challenging them to demonstrate presentation and interpersonal skills. The winner serves to connect his or her peer group and credit unions, promoting credit unions as unique, socially-connected service providers and employers while returning insight on peers' evolving expectations.

CCUL will shape program details alongside CUaware, which now encompasses South Carolina and its leadership group formerly known as CU Forward. Ongoing responsibility of South Carolina's 2012 and 2013 Palmetto Proteges included serving as liaison to CU Forward, and past competitions have called for credit union nominees to compete for chapter-level honors, with those first-place winners proceeding to state finals.
