South Carolina credit unions are nearing their $300,000 fundraising goal to renovate the family waiting area at GHS Children's Hospital in Greenville, SC, according to Carolinas Credit Union Foundation President John McGrail, who updated participants in the Tuesday, October 22 Piedmont Chapter of Credit Unions meeting. The current balance stands at $225,000, not including proceeds of the chapter silent auction that evening.

The total does include amounts presented at the meeting by a host of area credit unions. An October 7 golf tournament in Greenville--a cooperative effort of Greenville FCU, Carolina Foothills FCU, Greenville Heritage FCU, MTC FCU, and SC Telco FCU with support from Founders FCU, NCCUL, SCCUL, First Carolina Corporate, CUNA Mutual Group, Sharonview FCU, Spartanburg Regional FCU, Spartan FCU, Creative Builders, and RICOH--brought more than $40,000 in proceeds. Also, Secured Advantage FCU presented $15,000 from year-long fundraising efforts among staff, members, and its single sponsor, Sealed Air Corporation.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the upgraded, child-friendly area at GHS is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3. For more on the project, visit http://www.carolinasfoundation.org/ccuf/ChildrensHospProject.asp.
