Don't Tax Tuesday returns September 10

DON’T TAX TUESDAY RETURNS FOR ROUND 2!

With Congress in recess for most of August and part of September, they have spent a lot of time at home in their districts to meet with their constituents. On Monday, Congress reconvenes on Capitol Hill, so let's take this opportunity to welcome them back and show them that we haven’t stopped our fight, by launching "Don’t Tax Tuesday” round two on September 10, 2013!

On July 23, 2013, CUNA worked to endorse a "Don’t Tax Tuesday” (#DontTaxTuesday). This online advocacy day sought to promote credit unions (#creditunions) and the "Don’t Tax My Credit Union” (#DontTaxMyCU) campaign to the greatest extent before the tax reform deadline on July 26, 2013. It was a huge success with over a million in reach on Twitter and Facebook combined, and with almost 2,200 tweets using the #DontTaxMyCU hashtag.

Let’s make round two of "Don’t Tax Tuesday” even bigger! Both the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees will be working on putting together a comprehensive tax reform bill, and while we do not know what this bill includes yet, #DontTaxTuesday gives credit unions, members, and advocates the opportunity to tell their respective members of Congress: "DontTaxMyCU!"

Nationally, we continue to see more members of Congress come out in support of our tax exemption each day, but we need to be certain to turn these words into action! Once they hear the strength of the credit union movement again, it will demonstrate how losing the credit union tax exemption will impact 96 million members and their communities.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

Credit unions and individuals can participate by tweeting to their respective Senators and Congressmen using the #DontTaxMyCU hashtag. It can be as simple as, "Please #DontTaxMyCU @GrahamBlog @SenatorTimScott” or it can be more personalized, "I was able to get a mortgage through my #creditunion b/c it’s more affordable. #DontTaxMyCU @RepJeffDuncan” if you lived in South Carolina’s 3nd Congressional District. Tweet or post whatever you can! You can find your legislators’ Twitter handles listed below.
