Triad area CUs welcome lawmakers at Legislative Meet & Greet in Winston-Salem, NC
Thursday, March 29, 2018
State lawmakers from North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad area learned about the credit union difference at the Credit Unions Legislative Meet & Greet Mar. 22, 2018 in Winston-Salem, NC. Joining the nine lawmakers and their staff was a representative from the NC Department of Commerce and, most notably, over 50 employees, volunteers and members of Triad area credit unions, including Allegacy FCU, First Legacy Community CU, HealthShare FCU, Lion’s Share FCU, Local Government FCU, Members CU, Piedmont Advantage CU, State Employees CU, Summit CU, and Truliant FCU.
|Faced with another obligation at the same time as the meet & greet, Senator Dan Barrett (NC-34) set aside some time earlier in the day to speak with Piedmont Advantage CU CEO Judy Tharp and CCUL's Evelyn Hawthorne on March 22, 2018.
The event, hosted and sponsored by Piedmont Advantage CU, was an opportunity for the credit union community to enjoy fellowship, food and share information about the credit union movement with lawmakers. The event came about through partnership with the Carolinas Credit Union League. The format of the program included an opportunity for lawmakers and representatives to address the crowd and view a brief video presentation on the credit union difference.
“The enthusiasm and energy by and about credit unions expressed at the event was infectious,” said Evelyn Hawthorne, vice president of governmental affairs for the League. “This meet and greet format brings together lawmakers from the state and federal levels with credit union folks in their community. The crowded room is a message in and of itself, and conveys the message for the great and growing need and support for thriving credit unions to serve North Carolinians. The events are also a lot of fun.”
“The time invested by our lawmakers and our credit union community to get to know each other and share stories of the credit union difference was truly remarkable,” added Judy R. Tharp, Piedmont Advantage CU president and CEO. “Events like this can lead to future partnerships and support that will result in even more value for our members as credit unions continue to lead the way for their financial empowerment.”
Future Legislative Meet & Greet events are in the planning stages. For more information about advocacy engagement, please contact Evelyn Hawthorne at 919-457-9066 or email@example.com.
