Thursday, July 13, 2017
Following the conclusion of the special election in South Carolina for the Fifth Congressional District Seat, the Carolinas Credit Union League facilitated a meeting between credit unions and newly elected Congressman Ralph Norman on Monday, July 10 in Rock Hill, SC. Credit union representatives from ArrowPointe FCU, Family Trust FCU, Founders FCU, and Sharonview FCU were in attendance for the luncheon held at Hickory Tavern.
During the meeting, the group had the opportunity to speak with Rep. Norman and ask on the record questions. Of note, Rep. Norman stated he does not see the credit union tax exempt status at risk of termination, and would not support efforts to change it. Additionally, he supports efforts to reduce regulatory burden, including repealing Dodd-Frank and restricting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
“We are encouraged following our meeting with Congressman Norman this week," said Dan Schline, EVP/COO, association services. "He had a strong appreciation for the role that our local credit unions are playing in the community and a good working knowledge of the regulatory issues facing credit unions. We look forward to working with him and his office."
