Building Purpose-Driven Leaders at Credit Unions
Bernie Winne, President & CEO, Boston Firefighters Credit Union
We often read about the number of credit union senior managers who are scheduled to retire in the near future. Credit unions across the country have not developed sufficient “bench strength” to fill these opportunities and thus are increasingly importing senior talent from the for-profit sector. Too often, pragmatic financial/sales metrics trump employee or member well-being measures. Bernie Winne is worried the fabric of not-for-profit cooperatives will eventually fray without conscious attention to building purpose-centered leaders.
Mr. Winne is CEO of Boston Firefighters Credit Union. He is passionate about weaving cooperative purpose into hiring, mentoring and training. He will also have something to say about credit union directors...they are/should be the custodians of credit union culture. He is investing in leadership development at his credit union with purpose as the foundation. Mr. Winne will engage participants in discussion about this easy-to-say, but hard-to-do topic.
