SCGOP Legislative Night brings CU representatives and elected officials together
Credit union representatives speak with Reps. Katie Arrington (second from left) and Raye Felder (third from right) at the Feb. 7 Legislative Night.

The South Carolina GOP held their Annual Legislative Night on Wednesday, February 7 at the Palmetto Club. The event was a great opportunity for credit union representatives in attendance to strengthen relationships with state elected officials. Before the reception, League Vice President of Governmental Affairs Billy Boylston, Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey, and House Majority Leader Gary Simrill met to speak in depth on legislative issues.

“I appreciate the League’s continuous work in Columbia and D.C. on behalf of credit unions, because effective advocacy is a result of relationships,” Health Facilities FCU CEO Robert Harris commented recently. “The League’s presence at legislative events establishes and maintains those relationships, letting lawmakers know that credit unions are active and engaged throughout the political process.”

Tentative subcommittee date set for S. 337
Over the past year, the League has been lobbying in support of S. 337, which updates the SC Credit Union Act. After much work behind the scenes, the subcommittee hearing is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 21. The time and room have not been officially announced, but details will be shared in Thursday's In the Loop.
