"Preserving, protecting, and enhancing the CU charter."
The Carolinas Capital Club is the membership of credit union political advocates from both states whose active role includes annual contributions to the League’s political action committees.** Giving to the PAC bolsters our advocacy efforts and allows the League to support worthy state and federal candidates who back credit union principles.
As credit union advocates we must be:
- Involved in the political process to educate our lawmakers on issues that affect credit unions.
- United to shape a political climate that preserves, protects and enhances the credit union charter.
- Supportive of our credit union friends in Congress and in the state houses.
Contributions will be distributed among three PACs. Our newly formed federal PAC, the Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund, will share funds with CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC). The League also has two state PACs, CUPAC of NC and CUPAC of SC, for contributions to state-level candidates.
The Carolinas Capital Club is nonpartisan and allocations are approved by the League’s Governmental Affairs Committees. PAC contributions are given to candidates meeting one or more of these criteria:
- Understand credit unions and the challenges they face;
- Have a favorable position on issues impacting credit unions; and
- Serve on a key committee or in a leadership role.
Introducing New Recognition Levels
No amount is too small for a PAC contribution! The League will, however, recognize individual contributors who give at certain levels.
$100 or more per month ($1,200 per year)
$50 or more per month ($600 per year)
$25 or more per month ($300 per year).
$10 or more per month ($120 per year)
2015 was the inaugural year for the Carolinas Capital Club. In February of 2016, we mailed lapel pins to each contributor to reflect the personal contribution total from 2015. Those at silver level and above also received additional premium gifts.
**PAC Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes. Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund is funded by voluntary contributions. You have the right to refuse to contribute without reprisal. Contributions will be used for political purposes. Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year. The recommended contribution amount is only a suggestion. You may give more or less than the suggested amount. Carolinas Credit Union League will not favor or disadvantage anyone by reason of the amount of their contribution or their decision not to contribute.
Your PAC contribution will be divided between Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund (Federal PAC) and CUPAC of NC (North Carolina contributors) or Credit Union PAC of SC (South Carolina contributors) in percentages established by the Carolinas Credit Union League. A minimum of 20% will be devoted to your state PAC.
Federal law requires your credit union to grant approval through a signed permission agreement to solicit contributions to Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund (Federal PAC). If your credit union has not granted this approval, your contribution will be deposited to CUPAC of NC (North Carolina members) or CUPAC of SC (South Carolina members).
